UPPER MERION -- Doris Angstadt Goines was born Doris Angstadt May 2, 1924 in Bridgeport. Her parents were Edwin and Sarah Kershner Angstadt of 5th Street. She was the eighth of nine children. Attending school in the borough Doris graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1942. She recalled World War II starting in her senior year. The war led to a series of home front challenges, constant letter writing, rationing, losing friends in battle and dancing in the street when it finally ended.
