Taking advantage of low interest rates, officials with Amarillo College announced during Tuesday’s Board of Regents meeting that it made the decision to refund two of the college’s six bonds, the bonds from 2011 and 2012, subsequently saving nearly $900,000 in interest.  Chris Sharp, the vice president of business affairs for the college, said the 2011 bond, costing $2.785 million, was refunded at an interest rate of 1.25%, saving $361,561 in interest.  “I’ve been doing this for about 20 years and this is the lowest rate I have seen on bonds,” Sharp told the board. “It’s reall...
