Galesburg Aldermen considering streetlights for Lake Storey Road

Galesburg City Council on Monday night will discuss installing street lights between West Lake Storey Road and U.S. 150 along where the new multi-use path will go. Attendees of a public information meeting made the suggestion. Staff examined lighting in this area and found gaps of 1,000 to 2,000 feet that didn't have adequate lighting. The city has an ordinance that requires no more than a 400-foot gap for streetlights. Adding the streetlights to existing poles only requires the city to pay the light's electrical costs. Council documents call this a cost-effective way to make the roadway and the future path safer for users. Lake Storey Road is technically Knox County jurisdiction, but the future path will be under the city's purview. 17 LED lights will be installed on poles in the area.
