The Grand Rapids City Commission advanced its work to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in housing in Grand Rapids and increase housing supply, as it discussed next steps in the formation of the Grand Rapids Housing Fund.
The discussion followed recommendations made during the committee of the whole meeting by city administration with support from the city’s housing practice leader, Housing Next.
The proposed, non-endowed, designated housing fund would help assist low- and moderate-income residents, preserve existing affordable housing and make bridge loans for acquisition and pre-development costs with nonprofit developers. The two-pronged policy recommendation includes an operations policy and fiduciary for housing funds. ....

The Grand Rapids City Commission unanimously approved an option agreement with the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority (CAA) for the sale of a portion of the city property at 201 Market Ave. SW.
The city’s approval follows an action by the CAA for the potential location of a 14,000-seat amphitheater at the 201 Market site.
The option agreement provides for the sale of approximately 11.6 acres of the northern portion of the approximately 17.5-acre 201 Market property estimated at up to $24.5 million.
The property appraisal takes into account the CAA’s investment in the decommission and relocation of the east side trunk sewer and costs related to the demolition of existing site improvements. City-owned property along the Grand River could be sold and become the site of a 14-thousand seat amphitheater under an agreement passed unanimously by Grand Rapids commissioners Tuesday.
