Dover, NH May Soon Have Another Option When It Comes to Cable Residents in the city of Dover may soon have another option when it comes to who provides their cable services. The city council will consider a resolution during Wednesday night s meeting for a cable franchise agreement with Atlantic Broadband. Dover currently has a nonexclusive cable franchise agreement with Comcast. That agreement expires in 2027, according to city officials. Cable franchise agreements only pertain to cable television, but Atlantic Broadband would also provide internet and phone service for Dover residents and business owners. City councilors heard a presentation during a workshop on the topic on July 7. At that time, City Manager Michael Joyal said Atlantic Broadband had approached them a couple of months ago with the idea of offering services. ....

Portsmouth is getting a $12.88 million slice of the $1.9 trillion American Relief Plan funds passed by Congress. Dover and Rochester, both with much larger populations than Portsmouth, are getting significantly less. Dover is set to receive $7.5 million and Rochester $6.1 million. The entire package of money coming to New Hampshire includes about $1.4 billion, announced this week by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan and Reps. Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster. The resources are in addition to the $1.25 billion that the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act provided New Hampshire to compensate for COVID-19 emergency response efforts. Dover city councilor s plans unclear after string of absences He represents Ward 4. Neither Mayor Robert Carrier nor City Manager Michael Joyal are aware of why Manley has missed recent meetings or if he plans to start attending meetings in January, which is the next time the council will meet. Carrier stated during a recent interview Manley told him at one point he “might miss a couple of meetings.” A review of City Council videos shows Manley attended the Sept. 9 council meeting, then missed meetings on Sept. 23, Oct. 14, Oct. 28, Nov. 18, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. But Carrier said he does not know when or if Manley, whose term runs through the end of 2021, plans to return. ....
