The automated scam service has been named Classiscam by Group-IB and it’s meant to help cybercriminals steal money and payment data from unsuspecting victims, through the use of fake pages mimicking those of legitimate classifieds, marketplaces and delivery services. The Classiscam scheme is powered by Telegram chatbots, which generate a complete phishing kit, including courier URL, payment, and refund information. The chatbots also offer shops, where users can purchase accounts to marketplaces, manuals, e-wallets, mailings, and even lawyers. Simple and straightforward, the scheme has gained a lot of popularity, with over 5,000 scammers registered in the 40 most popular Telegram chats by the end of 2020. ....

The fraudsters are posting fake online classified advertisements for products to dupe interested buyers into visiting phishing pages, where their personal and payment data is harvested, according to Group-IB. Although the operation started in Russia two years ago, by early 2020, it had expanded to include 40 subgroups that have focused on targets in the U.S. and Europe, the new research report says. ....
March 3, 2021 So glad I came across this now just after going through the scheme as a victim. Having had an Atomic wallet for my cryptos for years was a very comforting thing. But once I had a problem with balances that showed as pending transactions but were indicated as confirmed in the History tab of my Atomic wallet phone app for a week, I still had enough confidence that all was okay as usual. I emailed the Support team on the matter wanting to inform them of the existence of such anomaly but their responses were very dull - almost out of context. ....
