order in the case saying that the lawyers had to request the clearance by today and report back to her by tuesday. evan perez is joining us. how long could the clearance process take? >> well, the justice department is going prove one of these things, and we are told that it can happen. at least a preliminary security clearance, and it can be done in a few weeks. so that is one of the first thing that you can expect, a little bit of contention of the teams, and prosecution and the legal team, and the president's lawyers, because they want to get started taking a look at the evidence that the justice department says that could prove the case, because they are

to deal with sort of classification. that sort of makes a lot of sense because, you know, giving them just one day for current counsel makes a lot of sense because how long does it take to pick up a phone? >> and it just means doing sort of quick background check. >> it basically says like i'm going to need a background check, and that basically gets the department of justice the ball rolling because for them to see and have access to classified information in a skiff, in a very controlled environment, they need to go through at least a temporary clearance process and you want to get that start. the part that doesn't make a lot of sense to me is anticipated counsel because that would be an anticipated counsel between now and tomorrow because there's an order that she issued that says, anticipated counsel has to do this by tomorrow. so presumably -- it's sort of badly worded, but that means any future counsel between now and tomorrow has to call tomorrow. so i'm not exactly sure how that

to pick his attorneys and to make sure that they can get the clearance necessary to be able to look at the highly sensitive material involved in this classified documents case. let's bring in cnn anchor kaitlan collins. what do we know about how this clearance process will look? >> well, it's the logical next step, right? because obviously this is a case that in addition to being rare because it's the first time a former president has faced federal charges, it deals with highly sensitive documents. and not just anyone, you or i, could actually look at those documents. so the attorneys that are representing him will have to get some kind of clearance here. obviously that typically takes, if you're applying for a white house job, it could take a year to get that clearance. this will be expedited obviously because it's in the interest of time for the doj and for everyone involved here. so basically, what she's telling them is to get the ball rolling on this, to start working on who is going to be getting these clearances. one thing that could complicate this is trump's legal team is not fully formed yet. he still does not have that florida attorney that they were searching for. it's not clear that chris kise

the judge issuing her first order in the trump case. didn't appear to be any delay in that, right, so the order comes. do you think that there's any real chance at this point that she recuses herself? >> it would seem unlikely. based on the fact that she has now seized the bull by its horns and moved forward in an act that good for her. for issues this order. i don't know if it was necessary to do. i would suspect the trump team and justice department have already begun these types of conversations. at least they have been because this is the obvious next step for the attorneys to start the clearance process which could frankly take weeks or months though unlikely that long. depending on what's in each of their backgrounds. >> right. but obviously she moved to do it, right? right away. just saying moving on that. kyle, you've been going through her background. so to try to understand, going through the bloomberg law angel
