Parliamentarians pay tribute to De Coteau, Shand

Parliamentarians paid tribute to former MPs Eden Shand and Clifton de Coteau during Wednesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives. The two men passed away within days of each other on January 20 and 22 respectively.
Shand served as MP for St Ann’s West between 1987 and 1991. He was parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Food Production, Marine Exploitation, Forestry and the Environment from 1987-1988 and as minister in the Ministry of External Affairs and Foreign Trade from 1987November 1991.
MP for Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West Stuart Young said Shand was a man who gave service during a dark time in Trinidad and Tobago’s history. ....

Condolences on passing of former Minister in the Ministry of Education
Port of Spain, 22 January, 2021: The Ministry of Education extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of former Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Clifton De Coteau on his passing today. 
Mr. De Coteau served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Education from 2010 to 2012. He was the Chairman of the National Task Force on School Violence and Indiscipline which was responsible for the relaunch and review of the National School Code of Conduct. 
He was also an educator and former principal of St. Stephen’s College, Princes Town who played a pivotal role in the lives of many. He made great contributions not only to the further development of our nation’s children, but he also touched the lives of many teachers during his tenure as School Supervisor III until 2002 when he retired.   ....

Family, political colleagues bid De Coteau farewell

An educator, a disciplinarian, a long serving public servant, a minister, a community and social activist, a sportsman, a photographer, a loving husband and father…
Clifton De Coteau was all of this and more, recalled his relatives during his funeral service at St Stephen’s Anglican Church in Princes Town, this morning (Monday 25 January 2021).
Due to the COVID-19 protocols, only family, close friends and his political colleagues were allowed inside the church.  The casket remained closed at the request of his family.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not attend the church service, but Oropouche MP Dr Roodal Moonilal who was among the politicians in attendance today, said Mrs Persad-Bissessar is expected to attend the cremation at Belgroves Funeral Home in San Fernando.  ....
