Council agrees to explore merger despite criticism | Updated: 12:37, 02 March 2021 Bitter divisions over the creation of a new super authority covering South Warwickshire have been laid bare at Stratford District Council, though the idea has moved a step closer to reality. SDC (44773062) During last week s Full Council meeting the authority agreed to the principle of working towards a merger with Warwick District Council, with 34 councillors in favour and one against, but that doesnât quite tell the whole story. Biodiversity emergency motion fails to gain cabinet support Published: 07:05, 31 December 2020 A motion calling on Stratford District Council to declare a biodiversity emergency in the district has failed to gain the support of cabinet members. SDC (43766040) The motion, proposed by liberal democrat councillors Susan Juned and Manuela Perteghella, called for the action in order to preserve and enhance biodiversity within the district. During a Cabinet meeting this month Cllr Juned argued that a forthcoming government white paper expected to outline a shakeup of the planning system, would not offer adequate protections to the districtâs wildlife sites. She said: âThis is causing a lot of concerns among wildlife specialists but also amongst councillors up and down the country of all political flavours.
