Harrow Civic Centre to be lit up orange for Sarah Everard

Harrow Civic Centre will be bathed in orange this evening (Wednesday, March 17) in solidarity with the campaign against gender-based violence following the death of Sarah Everard.
It will be the latest occasion the council building will use its floodlight system, with the colour orange chosen in line the United Nations’ bid to eradicate violence against women.
Today marks two weeks since the disappearance of Ms Everard, 33, whose body was later discovered in woodland near Ashford, Kent on March 10.
Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens, 48, has been charged with her murder with a provisional trial set for October 25. ....

Harrow Council encourages Covid-19 vaccination support bids

Community groups in Harrow can bid for grants up to £5,000 to help support the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine among vulnerable groups.
Harrow Council has encouraged applications to its Community Champions scheme, which has benefitted from £495,000 worth of funding from the Government.
Grants will be used to support communication around the Covid-19 vaccination programme, including tackling misinformation and encouraging uptake, as well as a wider push to encourage people to continue to follow NHS and government guidance around the virus.
The funding is intended to aid those most at risk from Covid-19, including older people, disabled people, members of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and those who are harder to reach, such as homeless people. ....

Harrow councillor responds to town centre triple stabbing

A senior Harrow councillor said a stabbing incident which left a man dead and two others injured “should not be happening” in the borough.
Cllr Krishna Suresh, who is responsible for crime and community cohesion at Harrow Council, said he was “shocked” to hear of a triple stabbing in St Ann’s Road, Harrow, on Sunday (December 13).
He was quick to pass on his condolences to the victims and said he could not add much more since the investigation is ongoing.
Police officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the street at around 7.15pm and found a 23-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. ....

Harrow and Brent politicians respond to London Tier 3 news

Local politicians say Harrow and Brent had no choice but to move into Tier 3 Covid-19 restrictions as cases rose at an “alarming” rate.
As part of London, both boroughs will face tougher guidelines from tomorrow (Wednesday, December 16) following a government announcement.
It means pubs and restaurants will close, while separate households will only be able to mix outdoors in public spaces in groups of up to six.
The rate of Covid-19 cases in Harrow per 100,000 residents stood at 253, while there has been a 39 per cent increase in positive tests when compared to the previous seven days. ....
