BASINGSTOKE’S summer music festival, B LOVE, is ‘unlikely’ to be going ahead this year, a senior councillor has confirmed. Last week, cabinet member for communities, culture and partnerships, Cllr Simon Bound, told members of the community, environment and partnerships committee that the coronavirus pandemic had caused ‘uncertainty’ over whether large-scale events would be possible by July. He said: “I think it’s fair to say, with the uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s important for us as a borough council to explore our options for safely delivering music and outdoor arts this summer. “We’re at the start of a vaccination programme, but we don’t know when restrictions will be lifted. Due to the uncertainty of social distancing restrictions, we need to be in a place to keep Basingstoke and Deane safe. ....
Basingstoke ice rink FOLLOWING a discussion held in private - excluding press and public - at its December meeting regarding repairs needed to the ice rink, the borough council s community, environment and partnerships committee received an update on progress from council officers last week. Reading the update to members at a meeting on January 20, chair Cllr Paul Gaskell said: “Following the confidential update to CEP, officers can report that discussions with Planet Ice are ongoing to secure the required investment into the ice rink, required for its repairs. Members will be aware that since the last meeting, Planet Ice confirmed their intention to continue running the ice rink for the foreseeable future, continuing to undertake surveys to monitor the situation. Officers and portfolio holder met with Planet Ice and Standard Securities to discuss the statement and options.
