Town council back 'Kill the Bill' demo

CARDIGAN Town Council are backing the seventy campaigners who gathered illegally beneath Cardigan Castle to register their distaste for the controversial Policing, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill on Saturday.
The Bill would grant the police enhanced powers limiting the right to peaceful protest, greater stop and search powers, and – most controversially – potentially result in longer prison terms for defacing a statue than for rape.
And most members who attended last night’s virtual meeting of Cardigan Town Council expressed solidarity with the protestors.
“I think that this Bill would pit the police against the community,” Cllr Shan Williams told colleagues. “When things go wrong will the police be made into scapegoats? ....

'Twenty is Plenty' scheme on Cardigan-St Dogmaels road divides opinion


MANY people in the community do not want the speed limit on the St Dogmaels to Cardigan road reduced to 20 mph, it has been claimed.
Local resident Caroline Blackburn appeared at a meeting of Cardigan Town Council to put forward the case against the ‘Twenty is Plenty’ campaign.
And she suggested that a pavement along the entire length of the B4546 would be a preferable alternative.
“I used to bike in London where the cycle tracks are very narrow,” Ms Blackburn told councillors. “I do not think a 20 mph speed zone is necessary on this link road – we should engage with the community as a lot of people do not want the speed limit reduced any lower. ....
