At the table or on the menu: Donovan hears frustration from ag producers

Kerry Donovan-D, Edwards, Colo., who is the chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Energy, has been leaning into the state’s agriculture community prior to the start of the legislative session.
Donovan met with a small group in Yuma, Colo., in the machine shed at former agriculture commissioner Don Brown’s farm last week. Donovan said Brown’s operation, like most agriculture operations, uses precision, technology, research, and science to adjust soil amendments to the inch, capitalize upon genetic potential in livestock, and increase efficiency through the use of GPS and even drones. This, she said, is a far cry from the stereotypical image of a farmer in the mind’s eye of some consumers. While none of this may surprise those involved in agriculture, she said now is an excellent time to remind consumers that agriculture is important to everyone across the state and not partisan.

Scaled-back plan for for Haven Apartments proposed near Canvas Stadium
After withdrawing plans for a 54-unit apartment building on Prospect Road following neighbors' objections, developers are back with a smaller proposal for Haven Apartments near Colorado State University's Canvas Stadium.
Fort Collins developers Robin and Christian Bachelet have a long-term land lease with the property owner, Colorado State University Research Foundation, or CSURF, to develop the 1.2-acre site at 730 W. Prospect Road, adjacent to their Apex apartments, which opened in 2017.
They withdrew their previous proposal for 54 apartments in an L-shaped building with a 10-foot buffer on the east after neighbors objected and the Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Board showed little support for the project.

Donovan to host ranching roundtable with CSU scientists

State Senator Kerry Donovan, of Vail, will host a virtual roundtable meeting Monday with Colorado State University scientists following a statewide listening tour on ranching and farming last week.
Donovan said the group attending the virtual meeting, which includes both the current president and chancellor of Colorado State University, will discuss the challenges Colorado’s farmers and ranchers are currently facing, and potential solutions to those problems.
“I’m proud of the coalition of farmers, ranchers and academic institutions like Colorado State University that we’re building to fight for rural communities,” Donovan told the Vail Daily. “I’ll make sure that the voices of small farmers and ranchers are loud and clear in our policies as we build back better from this awful pandemic.”
