On Monday, Budgets Committee will debate with US administration budget manager Young on the similarities and differences between the US and the EU recovery plans. On Tuesday, Parliament agreed to mobilise â¬397.5 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to help 17 member states and three accession countries to safeguard public health in fighting COVID-19. The beneficiaries are: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. To raise global climate ambition and prevent âcarbon leakageâ, the EU must place a carbon price on certain imports from less climate-ambitious countries, say MEPs. On Wednesday, Parliament adopted a resolution on a WTO-compatible EU carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) with 444 votes for, 70 against and 181 abstentions. The resolution underlines that the EUâs increased ambition on climate change must not lead to âcarbon leakageâ as global climate efforts will not benefit if EU production is just moved to non-EU countries that have less ambitious emissions rules. ....
