PETALING JAYA: Parents and guardians must safeguard their children by monitoring their online activities following the rise of child pornography cases during the movement control (MCO) period, says Wanita MCA.

Child pornography cases increase during MCO


KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Cases involving child pornography were reported to have increased during the movement control order.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed, who will retire on Thursday (May 20), said a total of 45 cases were reported during the MCO period (from March 18,2020 to April 29,2021), an increase of 27 cases compared to 18 cases before the implementation of the MCO (from Feb 18,2019 to March 17,2020).
He said it also involved child grooming without physical contact namely using words or showing obscene sexual acts either in audio and visual form to children which increased by 24 cases compared to 53 cases before the MCO.

Deputy IGP candidates identified, to be decided after Hari Raya, says Acryl Sani


KUALA LUMPUR: Candidates for the Deputy Inspector-General of Police post have been identified and will be announced after Hari Raya, says Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
The newly appointed IGP said he would discuss the list of candidates with the Home Minister and Home Ministry secretary-general before shortlisted names are referred to the Police Force Commission (SPP).
"The SPP will decide who will be the next Deputy IGP.
"The appointment of Deputy IGP is very important and it will be expedited. It will be done along with the appointments of several Bukit Aman department directors, to replace those who are retiring," he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman on Thursday (May 6).

Bukit Aman: Since the start of MCO, crime cases have dropped by 32%


KUALA LUMPUR: Since the first movement control order was implemented in March 2020, indexed crime cases have dropped by at least 32%, says Bukit Aman.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said from March 18,2020 to 15 April 2021, (394 days) 39,726 cases were recorded.
"Meanwhile, if we look at the 394 days before the MCO was implemented (Feb 18,2019 to March 17,2020), 54,920 cases were recorded.
"This shows a decrease of 18,644 casesm or a 32.2% drop in cases," he said during an interview on Bernama TV on Monday (May 3).
He attributed the drop to the increase in uniformed personnel such as police, Malaysian Armed Forces and Rela out on standard operating procedure compliance patrols.

Fahmi Reza to be remanded today (April 24) in sedition probe


KUALA LUMPUR: Graphic designer Fahmi Reza will be remanded on Saturday (April 24) following his arrest in connection with sedition investigations.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the CID's Special Investigation Unit (USJT) is investigating the case under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for wrongful use of network facilities.
"We will request a remand order for him on Saturday.
"The USJT will investigate the matter further," he said in a statement on Friday (April 23).
Comm Huzir said a police report was lodged against Fahmi for allegedly insulting the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah through his Facebook account.

Two secret society leaders nabbed, 20 henchmen rounded up in Selangor


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 22 suspected secret society members, including two gang leaders, following a fracas at an entertainment outlet in Brickfields last year that was caught on video.
During the Nov 25 incident, a policeman who was gathering intelligence there was also surrounded by the group and assaulted.

KUALA LUMPUR: A former police officer has been arrested for allegedly spreading lies about Bukit Aman CID Anti-Vice Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) officers.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the former inspector, 33, was nabbed in connection with an article, purportedly about a "D7 cartel" in cahoots with the underworld.
The article, which contains a list of names and photos of policemen "connected" to the cartel, has been going viral on social media over the past two weeks.
"The article has created doubt and public unrest as the wrongdoings mentioned in the article involve police personnel and officers," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 17).

Execs nabbed in meat cartel crackdown

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 36 people in several states over its investigation into the meat cartel that makes fake halal labels and certificates.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the suspects, mostly directors and managers of various companies, were arrested during Ops Kartel Daging that was carried out last Friday involving 19 companies in six states.
“The suspects, aged between 28 and 67, were arrested in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah.
“They have been raking in profits of between RM1mil and RM52mil a year from their criminal activities from 2018 to 2020, ” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
