Child pornography cases increase during MCO


KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Cases involving child pornography were reported to have increased during the movement control order.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed, who will retire on Thursday (May 20), said a total of 45 cases were reported during the MCO period (from March 18,2020 to April 29,2021), an increase of 27 cases compared to 18 cases before the implementation of the MCO (from Feb 18,2019 to March 17,2020).
He said it also involved child grooming without physical contact namely using words or showing obscene sexual acts either in audio and visual form to children which increased by 24 cases compared to 53 cases before the MCO.

Bukit Aman: Since the start of MCO, crime cases have dropped by 32%


KUALA LUMPUR: Since the first movement control order was implemented in March 2020, indexed crime cases have dropped by at least 32%, says Bukit Aman.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said from March 18,2020 to 15 April 2021, (394 days) 39,726 cases were recorded.
"Meanwhile, if we look at the 394 days before the MCO was implemented (Feb 18,2019 to March 17,2020), 54,920 cases were recorded.
"This shows a decrease of 18,644 casesm or a 32.2% drop in cases," he said during an interview on Bernama TV on Monday (May 3).
He attributed the drop to the increase in uniformed personnel such as police, Malaysian Armed Forces and Rela out on standard operating procedure compliance patrols.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) -A Malaysian artist was detained by police late on Friday for allegedly insulting the country’s queen by making a Spotify playlist that mocked comments on the queen’s Instagram account, an arrest condemned by rights groups as a clampdown on free speech.
Police said in a statement the graphic artist, Fahmi Reza, had uploaded a Spotify playlist with songs containing the word ‘jealousy’, with a photo of Queen Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

A Malaysian artist has been arrested for allegedly insulting the queen by posting a satirical playlist online, police said, fuelling concerns about a widening crackdown on freedom of expression.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Reuters) - A Malaysian artist was detained by police late on Friday for allegedly insulting the country's queen by making a Spotify playlist that mocked comments on the queen's Instagram account, an arrest condemned by rights groups as a clampdown on free speech.
Police said in a statement the graphic artist, Fahmi Reza, had uploaded a Spotify playlist with songs containing the word 'jealousy', with a photo of Queen Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Fahmi, who was being investigated under Malaysia's sedition and communications laws, had also posted a link to the playlist on his Facebook account, police criminal investigations director Huzir Mohamed said.
