The relatives and neighbors of slain youth protested outside the Police Control Room here in Srinagar, where bodies of the trio were brought for medico-legal formalities before transporting them to the graveyard in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, which is over 120 kms from their hometowns in southern Kashmir.
SRINAGAR: Family members of three youth killed in an encounter in HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday claimed that they were civilians, present in their homes until December 29.
They alleged that the trio was killed in a staged encounter, which started in the HMT area near Srinagar-Bramullah highway on the afternoon of December 29. The three youth killed in the encounter were identified them as Zubair Ahmad Lone, I his early 20’s from Turkawangam area of Shopian, Ajaz Maqbool Ganai, in his early 20’s of Putrigam and Athar ....

Lawaypora Encounter: Families Contest Army Version, Says ‘Innocent’ Trio Killed in ‘Staged’ Gunfight

Within less than an hour of Jammu and Kashmir police saying three militants were killed in an encounter at Lawaypora, families of the trio held protests outside the police control room claiming they were innocent and killed in a “staged” encounter.
The police said the three were “hardcore associates” of terrorists and that they will investigate the case and come to the conclusion soon on merits. The allegations by the families come close on the heels of the Shopian fake encounter where police investigation has held an army captain and two civilians responsible for the killing of three labourers from Rajouri killed earlier this year. The army has said it has competed the process of recording the summary of evidence in the case. ....
