State, Local Unemployment Rates Improve Slightly In Dec.
Local and statewide unemployment rates were down in December compared to November s rates, but still significantly higher than the pre-pandemic rates a year earlier.
Hill County s December unemployment rate was reported at 6.3% when the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) released its monthly data last week. That is down from November s rate of 6.8%, but up from the December 2019 rate of 3%.
December s data shows that there were 1,032 unemployed Hill County residents out of a total labor force of 16,508 for the month.
Overall, the Texas unemployment rate for December 2020 was 7.2 percent, down from 8.1 percent in November 2020. ....

BEAUMONT, Texas New data from the Texas Workforce Commission shows areas in Southeast Texas are seeing a higher percentage of unemployed residents from November despite job growth across the state.
In November 2019, 5.3 percent of residents in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area were unemployed. A year later, a TWC report shows those unemployment numbers have more than doubled.
11.8 percent of people in the area were seeking jobs in November 2020, which is also an increase from October’s 2020 unemployment rate of 9.9 percent. ....
