ROBSTOWN – This year, Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) proudly awarded the Ramiro De La Paz Memorial Scholarships to 13 seniors from 11 high schools: Bishop High School, Tuloso-Midway High School, Samuel Clemens High School, Calallen High School, Banquete High School, Orange Grove High School, Kaufer High School, Pleasanton High School, Port Aransas High School, Richard King High School and Gregory-Portland High School.
Following our cooperative principle of education, training and information, NEC is honored to provide this scholarship program to our community. NEC awarded $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors, in an effort to support them as they strive to continue their educations. ....

As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) is exempt from certain types of taxes, but it is still one of the largest taxpayers to local governments through the ad valorem tax.
The Latin phrase ad valorem means “
according to value.” MTE’s infrastructure, including buildings, substations, transformers, poles and lines, must be assessed annually to determine the amount to be paid. Local governments then use the revenue generated from the ad valorem tax for operations and programs to help meet the needs of the community’s residents. ....

Events Calendar - Mob Museum 9th anniversary - Las Vegas Weekly


The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, celebrates its ninth anniversary on Feb. 14 by offering free admission for Nevada residents, sponsored by NV Energy.
The day will include a unique photo opportunity with a finely rendered, life-size sculpture of notorious Chicago Mob boss Al Capone as well as a closer look into the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre with a video presentation featuring rare images, artifacts and insights into the crime and investigation. All guests must reserve their ticket in advance; tickets are limited to four per person. In alignment with its “Commitment to Community,” The Mob Museum continues to look for opportunities to increase accessibility to locals. Due to capacity limitations, free admission vouchers will also be distributed to preselected local nonprofit organizations giving them the opportunity to visit the Museum through the end of 2021. ....

Many will look back at the year 2020 and wish to forget it, and for good reasons. While we remember the many difficulties and challenges, we come away from the past year grateful and humbled. Amidst a global pandemic and continually changing public directives and orders, the men and women of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office were able to continue operations to provide services to the citizens of Charles County. Our officers on the front lines responded to calls and were recognized for meritorious service and lifesaving work. JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Ten local classrooms will now be enhanced with an extra $500 thanks to grants from Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association (EECA).
For many years, EECA has offered the Touchstone Energy Classroom Empowerment Grants to schools within its service territory to help fund classroom projects.
“Teachers are resourceful and resilient, but they can always use help,” EECA General Manager Shane Hermetz says. “We are aware that adequate funding for many schools is challenge.
