Flint River Fresh and the Dougherty County School System are celebrating a bountiful harvest with students and staff to culminate the success of the 2020-2021 Farm-to-School program year. Flint River Fresh Farm-to-School Garden united with the Dougherty County Schools Partners of Excellence, Dougherty County School Nutrition Services, and the City of Albany Recreation and Parks to restore and expand and nurture teaching gardens at Radium Springs, Robert Harvey, and Turner Elementary schools. ....

Surrounded by educators, students and business leaders, Duncan will congratulate the award winners and recognize the significant impact of College and Career Academies throughout Georgia. “Since the inception of the program, our Georgia College and Career Academies have served as a powerful education reform initiative focused on workforce and economic development,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “It is an honor to celebrate the hard work and achievements of those associated with this great program. Milton âJune Bugâ Griffin, the Dougherty County Board of Educationâs most tenured, current board member, died Wednesday at 72. Griffin had served the students of the system for over 20 years. He was the former owner of Junebugâs Grocery and was active in Dixie Youth Baseball and the Holiday Society Club. Griffin attended 2nd Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His current term on the school board expires at the end of next year. ....
ALBANY â For the second year in a row, Georgia-Pacific Lumber contributed $50,000 to Albany organizations. Georgia-Pacific delivered $10,000 checks to the Dougherty County School Systemâs Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy (4C Academy), Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity, the Dougherty County School System, and the city of Albanyâs Fire Department this week. The 4C Academy will use the contribution to enhance its robotics and metatronics pathways, while the Dougherty County School System has committed to allocate much of the money it received to REACH. The REACH Georgia Scholarship Program supports low-income students to help them prepare for college and then navigate the college process. ....
