Food giveaway held in honor of Carrie Mae Hambrick


STOCKBRIDGE — The Community Development for Real People and Feeding God’s People Food Pantry hosted a grocery giveaway in honor of Carrie Mae Hambrick in Stockbridge Saturday.
The event was held at the historic Green Front Cafe which Hambrick owned for more than 60 years.
The cafe, founded in the 1940s, was not only one of the first in Henry County, but also the first restaurant owned and operated by a Black woman.
More than 700 food boxes were distributed to residents during Saturday’s event. Personal hygiene items, toiletries and feminine products were also distributed.
Elton Alexander, president of CD4RP and city council member, called the giveaway a blessing, adding it was an “amazing day of giving and togetherness in Stockbridge.” ....

Henry commissioners approve more grants for businesses, nonprofits

In addition, the following grants to nonprofit organizations were approved:
♦ Stay Fit Through the Arts — up to $41,000 to assist youth in underserved communities negatively affected by COVID-19
♦ Helping in His Name Ministries — $100,400 to provide food assistance to all Henry County citizens
♦ Shaquille Clark Foundation — $25,000 to provide housing, utility and child care assistance to citizens of Henry County
♦ Community Development for Real People — $25,000 to provide food, personal hygiene items and persona protective equipment to Henry County citizens
♦ Wings of Prayer Senior Services — $10,000 to provide food, shelter and utility assistance to low-income, homeless senior citizens.
Henry County received approximately $8.5 million federal CARES Act funding, of which it allocated $5 million for its Small Business Restart and Non-Profit Assistance Program. Eligible businesses ma ....
