Community policing in black and brown communities, and let s not lose the focus on the race issue here, and can it be some significant collaborate community policing effort in black and brown communities under the current enforcement models in policing agencies in the country and some significant conversations over the months ahead. joey, looking at what comes next, and some people said it would be hard to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers engaged in the knowing killing of another which is necessary for the second-degree murder conviction, and do you believe that the second-degree murder charges are too aggressive in this case? so, i do not, kristen. i don t share that view that others have expressed. i believe that the charges are appropriate, and here is why. when we are looking at intent, i understand why the prosecutors did not charge that, why? looking at the charge ....
Community policing act through congress. i saw firsthand when we had those additional resources from the federal government that allowed us to augment police departments with community police officers, officers assigned to a neighborhood who got to know the neighborhood leaders, who went to the neighborhood meetings and frankly recruited police cadets out of those communities to work in those communities, that s how you rebuild trust where the trust is badly frayed right now. joe biden, not only is he advocating that, he s saying use the resources we ve provided for you, cities. you ve got money in the bank from the recovery plan. use that money to augment your police departments with a community policing effort that can do both, bring down crime and help restore trust. michael steele, two minutes of local news coverage any city i watch local news in, new york ....
Escalating homicide rate in north charleston. and quite frankly, as a senator, i received an increased number of citizen complaints about how law enforcement treated the people there. and so we worked together the city and myself and a number of legislators in a bipartisan way, to fund the purchase of 115 body cameras back may of last year that proviso passed in january of this year. we held a press conference daetding that we were going to purchase body cameras in addition and here s the critical point, to creating programs for this law enforcement agency to work with the community to foster better relations. and so, yes, we re aware of a troubled history with the number of incidents. but we are trying to address that. and the legislature in a large way blessed the funding of the anti-crime community policing ....
Tips. wow. we have utilized crimestoppers, 1-800-speak-up. they have been very helpful and we have a community group called detroit 100 where over 300 detroit residents have gone out passion out fliers, soliciting information. it s been a tremendous community policing effort. i think the resolve to bring this to closure, it s equal with the community and the police department. we ve engaged our federal partners. we re working with the fbi. we ve spoken with their profiler to help us understand the landscape of who we re dealing with, so we are i m cautiously optimistic, brooke, but we re going to be very vigilant until we bring this case to closure. we mentioned it s eight attacks in total. seven rapes and then one attempted in your city since january 1. yes. i know you re hopeful that women in your city are not fearful, but i imagine it s hard for them not to be. what s your message to women in detroit right now? well, it s difficult, but we don t want our people to be ....
