Kansas State Fair Board OKs seeking tax credits for Encampment remodel

Kansas State Fair Board OKs seeking tax credits for Encampment remodel
The Kansas State Fair Board voted Tuesday to support applying for state tax credits to raise money for converting the Fairgrounds Encampment Building into classrooms.
The board previously approved the conversion proposed by a SkillsUSA executive last June, with a promise by that organization that it would raise all the necessary funds.
No work was to start until the required money, estimated at $300,000, was raised. The COVID-19 pandemic halted most fundraising.
SkillsUSA supports career and technical programs in schools through state and national competitions. It approached the fair about converting the longtime dormitory building into classrooms after losing its event location in Hutchinson when the Atrium hotel closed.
