After a Delaware federal jury determined Illumina willfully infringed DNA sequencing patents held by Complete Genomics Inc. and owes $334 million — a figure that could be tripled — CGI's Chinese parent MGI said Thursday its rival agreed to pay $325 million to resolve the parties' fights in California and the First State.
The Chinese sequencing tech firm said it will make its DNBSeq-G400 system and CoolMPS chemistry commercially available in the US in late August, when an Illumina patent expires.
Illumina urged a Delaware federal judge Friday to overturn a verdict last month finding that the biotechnology company willfully infringed two Complete Genomics Inc. DNA sequencing patents and owes $334 million in damages, saying the evidence doesn't back the jury's liability finding and the size of the damage award is "indefensible."
