You re putting these images on the screen. it was an atr 42 and it was carrying 54 people. the number after the atr means the configuration for passengers. so it was an atr 42 carrying 54 people now 44 were passengers and the other were crew and lap children and babies in arms. that s still a very, very full plane in the united states. under our standards, it might have considered being overloaded. but they might have had a different configuration. would that cause a problem as it relates to weight? would it be germane to the reason why this went down or just an uncomfortable over packed flight, mary? all of the above. if they ran into some sot of ....

as we saw, this was a twin engine turbo prop. i think it could seat 50 total. that doesn t include the crew and the jump seats and the pilot and first officer. any chance it could have been overloaded? yes, an atr 42 in the united nations and most places in the world, 42 refers to the number of seats. depending upon the country where the airline is flagged, meaning where the airline s nationality is, you can reconfigure this plane to go up to 50-seat. so it is possible it did have the configuration for 50 seats. usually it was a 42-seater. and that doesn t count crew. that crew is allowed to be in addition to those seats. it would have had a maximum weight load on it with that many people on board. very good point. still early hours here. let s hope they re able to locate that plane and hopefully survivors. turning to north korea now. north korea threatening to ....

Investigators always want as to what started the chain of events. why did the plane end up in the water, but it s a pretty large piece from other ones i have worked on. if you remember the germanwings crash and how small the pieces were there. in this case a couple things could have happened. the wing could have detached and later this flapper piece, which is towards the wing closest to the body of the plane. and that impacts later. but this is a pretty big piece. and we can probably tell that the plane did not fall from say 35,000 feet straight into the water. not a diving crash into the water because the pieces would be much smaller. you wouldn t expect to find a piece this big. and then also that it appears that it was torn from its attach point or from the hinges. and that would suggest there were stresses put on that piece. and this piece is used to extend the wing area and give an aircraft more lift or to turn the plane so the plane could have been turning or it could have been i ....
