At least five people were killed and 15 others were injured on Sunday (January 15) in a suspected militant bombing during a church service in DR Congo's Kasindi in North Kivu- which is on the border with Uganda. A spokesperson of the army told the news agency Reuters that the attack was most likely carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF)- a Ugandan militant group that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) in 2019.

Congo's government dramatically increased the death toll from a massacre last week they blamed on M23 rebels, saying Monday that 270 people had been killed in an attack that broke a fragile cease-fire agreement.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) urged the Congolese government to launch an investigation into the killings of two Indian and one Moroccan peacekeeper. The world organisation adopted a press statement, submitted by India and France, on the recent killings of the three peacekeepers in Congo. The recent attacks on the UN’s MONUSCO in North Kivu, which resulted in the deaths of three peacekeepers and injuries to others, were strongly condemned by the Council’s members.
