CORNWALL, Conn. (AP) A historic covered bridge in Connecticut was damaged Tuesday when the boom of an excavator being towed over the span crashed into wooden support structures for the roof.
State police said the West Cornwall Bridge sustained “significant non-structural damage, but expected the repair work to take only a few hours. The state Department of Transportation performed a safety inspection and determined there was no impact on the integrity of the bridge, troopers said. ....

State troopers from Massachusetts and Connecticut helped deliver gifts from the New Hampshire state police to a girl living in Connecticut whose parents both died recently in New Hampshire.Contributed photo.
Connecticut state troopers helped with a special delivery Saturday of gifts collected by New Hampshire state police for a local girl who recently lost both her parents.
The young girl, identified as Eyvie, recently lost both of her parents in two separate tragic events and is now living with her grandma, said Paul D. Raymond Jr., a spokesperson for the New Hampshire Department of Safety. ....
