비실대던 비트코인 값이 27일 장중 4만 달러를 돌파했다. 암호화폐 사이트 코인데스크에 따르면 이날 비트코인 가격은 오전 4시 9분 4만179달러를 기록했다. 6월 16일 이후 한 달여 만에 4만 달러 고지를 다시 밟았다.

하지만 30분 천하였다. 세계 최대 전자상거래업체인 아마존이 연내 암호화폐의 결제수단 도입을 공식 부인하면서 곧바로 3만 달러대로 내려앉았다. 이날 오전 4시38분 3만9985달러를 기록하며 4만 달러 아래로 떨어진 뒤 이날 오전 10시에는 3만7466달러에 거래되고 있다.

악재도 호재도 없이 횡보하던 비트코인의 몸값을 들썩이게 한 건 아마존이었다. 지난주 아마존이 암호화폐 전문가를 모집하는 구인광고를 내면서 암호화폐를 결제수단으로 도입하는 것 아니냐는 소문이 시장에 돌았다. 기대감 속 비트코인 가격은 계속 급등했다. 특히 전날 비트코인은 3만4000달러대에서 3만8000달러대로 폭등했다.

미국 CNBC 방송도 비트코인의 이런 상승세는 아마존이 비트코인 결제를 허용하는 것을 진지하게 검토하고 있음을 시사한다고 보도했다. 이 기세로 비트코인 가격은 27일 오전 6시대에 4만 달러를 돌파했다.

하지만 곧바로 가격은 급락했다. 비트코인이 4만 달러를 돌파한 직후 아마존 대변인의 성명이 나왔기 때문이다. 로이터 통신에 따르면 이날 아마존은 대변인을 통해 “암호화폐 전문가 구인광고를 내보냈다고 해서 아마존이 연내 암호화폐 결제를 허용하는 것은 아니다”라며 “아직까지 연내 암호화폐 결제를 허용할 계획은 없다”고 말했다.

아마존 대변인이 연내 암호화폐 도입설을 전면 부인하면서 비트코인은 급락하기 시작했다. 실망 매물과 4만 달러까지 올라간 이후 차익 실현을 하려는 매물까지 합쳐지며 비트코인 가격의 하락세는 이어지는 모습이다.
