COVID-19: Wisconsin to launch contact tracing app

Wisconsin this week is launching a new COVID-19 contact tracing app.Continuing Coverage: Coronavirus in WisconsinIt s designed to let residents know if they ve come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.Several other states are already using it with mixed results. It first relies on people caring enough about others to use the app. But it will also take local health departments quickly notifying people of positive results.As the first doses of the vaccine are celebrated, Wisconsin still has a long way to go before COVID-19 is eradicated. We anticipate that app will be turned on later this week, Health Services Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk said. Recent updates outfitted smartphones with exposure notifications and a new app will launch Wednesday. COVID-19: Evers: Wisconsin getting fewer vaccines than promised

Gov. Tony Evers and state health officials Friday called on the federal government to allocate more Pfizer vaccines to Wisconsin. Continuing Coverage: Coronavirus in WisconsinThe state was informed Thursday it will only be receiving 35,100 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.That s far less than expected.Wisconsin received an initial 49,725 doses Monday. This is unacceptable. Wisconsin citizens deserve the vaccine the federal government promised, Evers said. Our health care workers and long-term care residents need this vaccine that is ready and available. We call on the federal government to send us more vaccine without delay.
