Newcastle Emlyn man Corey Sharpling died in landslide during Storm Callum, inquest told

A CONCLUSION of accidental death has been recorded on a Newcastle Emlyn man who was caught in a landslide at the height of Storm Callum back in 2018. An inquest at Llanelli heard that 21-year-old Corey Sharpling was on his way to work at McDonald’s, in Carmarthen, on October 13, 2018, when he stepped off a bus on the A484 at Cwmduad when the road was blocked. A devastating landslide triggered by the storm then swept away both Mr Sharpling and a lorry that had also stopped. Coroner Paul Bennett recorded a conclusion of accidental death and described it as a ‘very, very sad case’.

McDonald's worker, 21, was crushed to death by landslide in freak accident in Wales, inquest hears

A 21-year-old McDonalds worker was crushed to death under a landslide in a freak accident on a country road in Wales, an inquest heard. Corey Sharpling, 21, was on his way to work when his bus was forced to stop due to a fallen tree blocking the road in Cwmduan, near Carmarthen, in October 2018. He got out of the bus to watch the emergency workers clear the debris from Storm Callum - which was wreaking havoc across the country at the time.  But a shock 'million-to-one' landslide sent tonnes of earth and trees toppling down on him from a roadside forest.
