CORNWALL – Get ready to dig a little deeper for your Cornwall Electric hydro bill this summer. The utility will be increasing rates 2.3 per cent, starting July 1. For a home using 1,000 kilowatt hours monthly, that will be an extra $3.20 a month. Regional Manager Jackie Baird says they have been able to keep increases close to inflation due to long term contracts with Hydro Quebec. Roughly 80 per cent of a bill is the wholesale cost of electricity which is passed through to customers, according to the utility.
