CORNWALL – Get ready to dig a little deeper for your Cornwall Electric hydro bill this summer. The utility will be increasing rates 2.3 per cent, starting July 1. For a home using 1,000 kilowatt hours monthly, that will be an extra $3.20 a month. Regional Manager Jackie Baird says they have been able to keep increases close to inflation due to long term contracts with Hydro Quebec. Roughly 80 per cent of a bill is the wholesale cost of electricity which is passed through to customers, according to the utility. This increase is less than it was in July 2020, when rates rose 2.95 per cent. The 2019 increase was 2 per cent. ....
