Akwesasne Healing Centre still waiting on Care Centre to close permits

The Standard-Freeholder reported earlier this month the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) had invested more than $90,000 in order to create the Akwesasne Healing Centre, a homeless shelter and healing centre located at the Care Centre. Despite being nearly ready to welcome its first visitors, the 11,000-square-foot shelter had to remain locked due to not receiving the proper permits from the City of Cornwall.

Cornwall Electric customers face 2.3% increase this summer

CORNWALL – Get ready to dig a little deeper for your Cornwall Electric hydro bill this summer.
The utility will be increasing rates 2.3 per cent, starting July 1.
For a home using 1,000 kilowatt hours monthly, that will be an extra $3.20 a month.
Regional Manager Jackie Baird says they have been able to keep increases close to inflation due to long term contracts with Hydro Quebec. Roughly 80 per cent of a bill is the wholesale cost of electricity which is passed through to customers, according to the utility.
This increase is less than it was in July 2020, when rates rose 2.95 per cent. The 2019 increase was 2 per cent. ....

Cornwall residents will be seeing an increase in their electricity bill starting on Canada Day. Cornwall Electric rates are set to go up by 2.3 per cent, equal to a $3.20 a month increase to any resident using 1,000 kilowatt hours monthly.
Currently, Cornwall Electric owned and operated by Fortis Ontario charges rates of $0.16 per kilowatt hour for the first 250 used and $0.12 per kWh afterwards, on a monthly basis. That’s for its urban residential service, which makes up most of its users. ....
