From The Tribune staff reports CENTER POINT The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian on Center Point Parkway, on Thursday, May 13, 2021. A 46-year-old man was walking in the 10 block of 24th Avenue NW when he was struck by a vehicle, according to Coroner Bill Yates. The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office said the driver of the vehicle left the scene. The pedestrian was found nearby in the 2400 block of Center Point Parkway. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:08 p.m. Sgt. Joni Money said detectives are gathering information. There are Flock Safety cameras in the area to help with the investigation. ....
From The Tribune staff reports BIRMINGHAM The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified a woman struck and killed by a vehicle in Birmingham. Felicia Renee Richardson, 61, of Birmingham, was hit at 6:45 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, while attempting to cross 1st Avenue North, from 68th Street, according to Coroner Bill Yates. She was pronounced dead on the scene. “The driver of the motor vehicle stopped and reported the incident to the authorities,” Yates said. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating. ....
From The Tribune staff reports BIRMINGHAM The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office is requesting the assistance of the public in locating the family of a 75-year-old man who died on Feb. 8, 2021. James Earl Thomas, of Birmingham, was found dead in his bedroom at a home in the 1900 block of Woodland Avenue Southwest. Thomas died of natural causes, according to Coroner Bill Yates. Thomas was born in Georgia but lived in Alabama at the time of his death. He lived in Houston County in the 1970s, in Montgomery County in the 1980s and in Jefferson County since 2008. From The Tribune staff reports BESSEMER The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office announced the death of two people incarcerated at Williams Donaldson Correctional Facility. Dewitt Searight, 77, died of natural causes, according to Coroner Bill Yates. Searight had been hospitalized since Jan. 20, 2021, at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center due to complications from a previous stroke. He died on Feb. 8. Searight was serving a life sentence for a murder in Butler County. On Feb. 9, David Lee Franklin, 31, died at the prison. Franklin, who was serving a 30-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Jefferson County, was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell and was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. ....
