The 61-year-old man had metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare throat cancer, and his condition took a turn for the worse when he contracted coronavirus late last year, according to his attorney, Rebecca Rose. “His lungs never recovered from COVID,” she said. He died last Friday night in a correctional unit at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, according to the Somerville-based attorney.
