Nassau County Executive Laura Curran Announces Program to Replace Failing and Outdated Cesspools Harmful to Public Health and Local Environment

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced that the County will soon be accepting applications from residents and small businesses to replace their conventional or failing cesspools or septic systems with environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art technology that reduces nitrogen, thereby better protecting public health and the local environment.
 
The SEPTIC program, made possible through a $2 million grant from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, will provide funding to eligible recipients to replace a conventional or failing septic system with an innovative and alternative onsite wastewater treatment system.  Nassau County is offering grants of 50% of the costs, up to $10,000, for homeowners or small businesses to install state-of-the-art nitrogen reducing septic systems. ....

County Executive Curran and Police Commissioner Ryder Announce Creation of PAL Program for Roosevelt Community

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder were joined by the Roosevelt PAL Board and community members to formally announce the creation of a new Police Athletic League (PAL) program for the Roosevelt community. In addition to establishing this new unit, the County Police Department donated $25,000 from Asset Forfeiture funds to assist with startup costs. Currently, the Nassau County Police Department provides officers to oversee 32 PAL units and interact with the youths in communities through sports, crafts, educational programs, and more.
 
Under County Executive Curran’s leadership, new PAL units have been established in Elmont, Lawrence, and now Roosevelt – the first new offices opened in over 50 years. ....

Curran Requests 50% Capacity at Nassau Coliseum by May 7

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has requested that New York State expand permitted capacity at the Nassau Coliseum to 50% by May 7, 2021. In a letter sent to the Governor’s Office, County Executive Curran writes “While we continue to battle COVID-19, we must also continue reopening our economy and society in a common-sense manner. That is why I am requesting that New York State expand permitted capacity at the Nassau Coliseum to 50% by May 7, 2021.”
 
Nassau Coliseum reopened March 11 for 1,000 Northwell Health frontline staff and Islanders season ticket members on March on 18th, as permitted by state guidelines. Attendance is currently limited to 10% of capacity. ....
