Welcome to the 'phigital' world, where the physical and the digital are combined

HALIFAX --
A lot of people seem to be talking about them these days, with some big names making big bucks for selling them.
While you can buy and own a non-fungible token (NFT), it’s not something you can hold in your hands, but it’s what some say is the next step in the evolution of our digital world.
"Digital art is becoming more of an asset and I would like to be able to take part in that particular new future," said artist Amruta Dnyanmote.
That new future doesn’t just mean putting their works online, it means turning their works into non-fungible tokens.

Plenty of construction in Saint John city core

SAINT JOHN, N.B. --
You don't have to go far to see cranes, heavy equipment, and other signs of construction in Saint John's city core these days.
Several high-profile and large-scale residential developments are now being built in the uptown peninsula amid a surge in demand.
Ground has now been broken on a major mixed-income housing development that's been years in the making -- a 48-unit apartment complex called The Wellington in Saint John's city core.
"It's been in concept now for probably about three years and, so,within the last month we've began construction on it," Lisa Keenan, the presidentof Saint John Non-Profit Housing."We're putting in a foundation; we're working away on it and hopefully within 18 to 22 months the building will be complete."

Two dead after fishing boat sinks off coast of Cape Breton: First Nation

HALIFAX --
According to the Elsipogtog First Nation, two crewmembers from a fishing boat that sank off the coast of Cape Breton have died.
A Facebook post from the First Nation says the two people were among the five crew members working aboard the FV Tyhawk, which capsized off the west coast of Cape Breton on Saturday.
Elsipogtog First Nation Chief Ruth Levi told CTV News the community is grieving.
"It's very sad," said Chief Levi. "The community's very somber. We lost two community members -- well we consider one a community member."
Levi says one of the deceased was a member of the Metepenagiag Mi'kmaq First Nation in New Brunswick, but had close ties to Elsipogtog.

Edmundston, N.B. hospital about to hit its breaking point: Russell

FREDERICTON --
New Brunswick’s top doctor says a hospital in the province's COVID-19 red zone is about to hit its breaking point.
Dr. Jennifer Russell, New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, says Edmundston Regional Hospital has been overwhelmed, not only by the recent outbreak in Zone 4, but the severity of just how ill a COVID-19 variant is making some people.
“They are pretty close to capacity, so the next steps would be to start transporting COVID-19 patients to other centres, and that would not be ideal,” says Dr. Russell.
"It’s one thing to transfer a patient to another zone who requires care for a non-COVID condition, but once you start moving COVID patients around, especially with the U.K. variant, which is more transmissible and more aggressive... we’re seeing a higher percentage of people who get this variant requiring hospitalization."

'It's like a nightmare': Concerns grow over number of COVID-19 patients in Edmundston hospital

HALIFAX --
With only three new COVID-19 cases in New Brunswick's Edmundston region on Monday, there is still concern about the number of COVID-19 patients in hospital.
As of Monday, there are currently 14 people in hospital in New Brunswick, eight of which are in the intensive care unit.
Eric Marquis, the deputy mayor of Edmundston, says the current situation at the Edmundston Regional Hospital is critical with their intensive care unit now full.
Marquis says, while the city has dealt with outbreaks before, this one appears to be different.
"We've seen a lot of young people in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and they are getting sick pretty bad," explained Marquis. "That is something we know for a fact right now."
