Need of 3rd booster dose based more upon conjecture than data: Experts


More data is needed to establish if a third anti-COVID-19 booster dose will more effectively help in fighting the surge in infections in the country as currently its requirement has been based more upon conjecture, health experts said.

Delhi, Maharashtra, 8 other states account for 80% of new Covid-19 cases


Ten states Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Kerala have shown a rise in the COVID-19 daily cases accounting for80.80 per centof the new infections reported in a day, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
India s daily new cases continue to rise. A totalof 1,61,736 new cases were registered in a span of 24 hours.
Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 51,751. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 13,604 while Chhattisgarh reported 13,576 new cases.
India s total active caseload has reached 12,64,698 which now comprises 9.24 per cent of the country s total infections. A net increase of 63,689 cases recorded in the total active caseload in a span of 24 hours. ....

Over 140,000 Covid doses administered to beneficiaries in Haryana on Monday


Over 1.4 lakh anti-coronavirus vaccine doses were given to beneficiaries in Haryana on Monday, taking the total number of jabs administered in the state to 20,12,332, an official said.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajeev Arora said Monday and Tuesday are the mega vaccination days when the administration of vaccines is relatively higher in comparison to the other days of the week.
Arora said there were 1,449 vaccination centres across Haryana, which were evenly spread.
Most of the beneficiaries were above 60 years of age or between 45 years to 60 years, he added.
On the administration of vaccines to Health Care Workers (HCWs) and Frontline Workers (FLWs) in the state, the official said 1.9 lakh HCWs have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and around 1,14,656 HCWs have been administered the second dose. ....

Crook County health leaders have increased their COVID vaccination rates considerably since vaccines were first made available in late December.
Yet, like communities throughout the state, they are playing catchup as eligible people wanting vaccinations has outpaced the number of shots that can be administered.
In the beginning, the state was allocating our weekly shipments based on the size of county, and we were only getting 100 doses a week, said Vicky Ryan, Crook County s emergency preparedness coordinator. Then, they changed that a few weeks back, and they are doing it based on how much we say we can administer. So, we are getting upwards of 700 doses a week, and we are supplying two of our local pharmacies (Bi-Mart and Clinic Pharmacy) doses as well as St. Charles clinic. ....

Over 1.23 cr healthcare, frontline workers vaccinated against Covid: Govt


The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to healthcare and frontline workers has crossed 1.23 crore in the country, the health ministry said on Wednesday.
A total of 1,23,66,633 vaccine doses have been administered through 2,63,224 sessions till 6 pm on Wednesday, according to a provisional report.
These include 65,24,726 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose, 14,81,754 HCWs who have taken the second dose and 43,60,153 frontline workers (FLWs) who have taken the first dose.
While the countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16, the inoculation of FLWs started from February 2.
Total 2,01,035 vaccine doses were given till 6 pm on Wednesday, the 40th day of nationwide COVID-19 vaccination. ....
