26 Things To Do in and Around Denver This Week

Things to Do Denver: Gallery Openings and Art Shows July 28 through August 4, 2021

Begins August 1 Opening Reception and Screening: Friday, August 6, 7 to 10 p.m. The Yard, the Colorado Springs front-yard gallery run by artists Jessica Langley and Ben Kinsley, is hitting the gas again on live events with the introduction of a couple of video-based works. The first, Denver artist Annette Isham’s interactive video installation Venus: A Space to Hold, which begins its run on August 1, requires use of the Popwalk augmented-reality app for viewing as you navigate through the yard. Dates for video screenings will be announced via email and social media. Follow the Yard s Instagram for updates, or contact the organizers through IG to be added to the mailing list.

Katy Batsel Honored as a Colorado Creative

Katy Batsel is a dreamer wielding needle and thread to imagine a better world for herself and her queer community. As a member of the like-minded Secret Love Collective, she encourages the disenfranchised to step out of their world, try on identities and find new ways to live life. But her fiber works on their own can still be big and funny, cheeky, heavy with subtle memories and loud with slogans, ready for a parade, and evidence of a massive imagination. What fires Batsel’s message? The artist tells all as she answers the Colorado Creatives questionnaire. Westword: What (or who) is your creative muse?
