Crossett Chamber Names Award Winners


Members of the Crossett Area Chamber of Commerce gathered Tuesday, April 27 for the Chamber’s 69th annual awards banquet.
The award ceremonies ended with an emotional tribute from outgoing Chamber President Howard Beaty Jr. to former Mayor Marshall Scott McCormick, who was posthumously named Man of the Year. The honor was bestowed on the late mayor one year and 11 days after his death while still in office. 
McCormick was in his 42nd year of service to the people of Crossett. He’d worked as a police officer, investigator and captain for the Crossett Police Department from 1978 to 1998, at which time he was elected mayor. He was re-elected to five additional consecutive terms. ....

Drug Take Back Sites Planned For This Saturday


Arkansans are being encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring any unused or expired medications to one of the state’s more than 250 Prescription Drug Take Back Day drop-off locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.
In Ashley County drop-off sites include Crossett Police Department, Baker’s Pharmacy, Gammel’s Pharmacy, and Portland Drug.
“Cleaning out medicine cabinets and turning the expired, unused medications over to law enforcement during a Drug Take Back event will save lives,” said Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. “It is important now more than ever that we continue to properly dispose of these prescription drugs.” ....
