A woman from Sardinia, Ohio, is accused of stealing more than $700,000 from the family-owned business that she was an employee of.According to a press release from the United States Attorney s Office Southern District of Ohio, Tina Coday-Townes, 48, was arrested Thursday. Court documents reveal Coday-Townes was the office manager for Custom Built Crates in Clermont County, where she was responsible for accounts payable and bookkeeping.From 2013 until 2019, Coday-Townes allegedly wrote checks using an employers’ signature stamp from the business s operating accounts to pay off her personal credit cards, the release stated. She would then make false entries into the database stating that the checks were going to vendors.Coday-Townes is also accused of claiming overtime hours for herself even though she was a salaried employee, excluding her from access to overtime hours ....

The mayor of Sardinia was charged Thursday in federal court after prosecutors said she stole more than $700,000 from her employer.
Tina Coday-Townes, 48, is charged with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
She was last elected mayor in 2019. Her term is not scheduled to expire until the end of 2023. Sardinia is a village of about 1,000 people on the border of Brown and Highland Counties.
The U.S. Attorney s Office for the Southern District of Ohio said Coday-Townes worked as an office manager for Custom Built Crates in Batavia.
She s accused of using the business s signature stamp to pay off her personal credit cards and covering her tracks in the accounting database by indicating that the extra checks were for vendors, according to court documents. ....

Sardinia Mayor arrested for stealing 700K

Sardinia Mayor Tina Coday-Townes has been arrested by the FBI for stealing more than $700,000 from a former employer.
Townes, 48, was arrested by federal agents April 29 at her home and appeared in federal court in Cincinnati later that day. Her case was unsealed at her initial appearance.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cincinnati released the following statement regarding the arrest of Townes.
“According to court documents, Coday-Townes previously served as the office manager for Custom Built Crates in Clermont County. In that role, the defendant was responsible for accounts payable and bookkeeping, including inputting and sending data to a third-party payroll company. ....
