Hundreds of people flocked to Dan Cowper s farm to watch 4x4 trucks do the seemingly impossible. The event was the last of the North Island 4x4 trials season. The competitors were 13 pairs who placed in the top 10 in 2020 and 2021. They lined up to compete across 12 courses, each with 10 gates or obstacles, and in a variety of vehicles. ....

Oxbow Adventure Company is the kind of place racing legend Greg Murphy loves; I spotted him there when we pulled up. Supplied/Stuff The Oxbow has been especially designed for the course. The hilly desert-like landscape in Gibbston Valley almost reminded me of Utah, but my thoughts were quickly distracted by a giant buggy flying up the side of a hill. It s called an Oxbow, and you will hear it before you see it. The custom-made buggies were designed by national off-road champion Dan Cowper, and includes an impressive front and rear wheel driving system, which means the buggy can manoeuvre at great speed and with remarkable agility. It also has a very low centre of gravity, so it can be pushed to the limit on hills without flipping over. ....
