Veteran driver Dave Ingraham needed a little luck and a little racing room to avenge his previous loss in the $6,000 Winners-Over top pacing class at Cumberland. But, after the latter got caught behind a tiring Twomacsoneshadow going to three-quarters in 1:27.2 and was forced three-wide, Ingraham found racing room and ducked off the pylons in the final turn, brushing the six-year-old son of Rockincam home in 1:57. Pacesetter Bet On Joe held on for second and Airspinder was third. Rocksapatriot picked up his 16th win of his career, which has accounted for $109,198 in earnings. This was his third victory of the season, the fastest of which was a 1:53 romp at the Pomp .

In yesterday’s opener at Cumberland, Sarahs Lilly had a repeat performance, taking the top fillies & mares class on back-to-back Tuesdays. That, in and of itself, is not necessarily headline news. But the fact the her regular driver Bruce Ranger is now leading all drivers at all three commercial New England harness tracks, could be somewhat of a unique occurrence. “This has never happened before, even in the old Bay State Raceway era,” said long-time Maine presiding judge Charles Malia. “I do recall Ranger being the top reinsman at Plainridge, Rockingham and Pompano in the year 2000, but never at all three New England tracks simultaneously.”

Owned by George Tzikas and trained by Bob Marston, Caulfield has amassed over $372,000 in earnings with 24 wins on his resume. The classy campaigner has hit the board in over half of his 156 starts. Caufield paid $4.80 to win.

The winning time was the fastest of the season at the new First Tracks Cumberland meet, and gave driver/co-owner Ron Cushing his first win over the Southern Maine surface this season. Trained by Heidi Gibbs and co-owned with Kevin Sywyk, the eight-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover has now hit the board six times in his last 12 starts. Rock Diamonds N paid $2.60 to win. One of the highlights of the afternoon was the first training win for 19-year-old Christopher DuBois, who visited the winner’s circle with his own Panhellenic, a 14-year-old son of No Pan Intended. The Mechanic Falls, Maine resident had his father, sister, nieces and nephews join him for the celebration of getting his first victory in 17 tries, with a 20-1 longshot!
Driver Dan Deslandes earned the 1,000th win of his career on Wednesday (May 5), reaching the milestone with Millwood Faith N in the seventh race at Bangor Raceway. The 28-year-old Deslandes guided the 11-year-old mare to a 1:59.3 win, her third in four starts this year. Deslandes, who is currently second in the Bangor Raceway standings behind Bruce Ranger, also won the afternoon s 10th race with Love Love Me Do.
