The city of Eureka announced Monday that another $15 million dollars has been awarded to Linc Housing for three planned affordable apartment building developments.

During a meeting Wednesday, the Arcata city council authorized a loan for Danco Communities to study a property they hope to build mixed income housing on. The funds came from a tax aimed towards streamlining housing. The council did not approve a similar loan for Arcata House Partnership on the agenda for low income housing on agricultural land, citing concerns about developing open space.
The city would declare the emergency because it would open up funding for the Arcata House Partnership’s safe parking program, where residents living out of their cars can park overnight, access meals, bathrooms and case management services. The city funds the safe parking program, but the staff report notes it’s “unsustainable” in the city’s budget.
