Battle of the sexes Statistics have shown that women earning more than their partners are more likely to be victims of “domestic violence”. What is it in our male culture that offends men who feel frustrated and jealous enough to hurt and destroy a relationship with partners who outperform them? Many females today are career women who have achieved their status in their own right. Men seem to be more competitive than women, but is this a male-only attribute? Most males see themselves as the “breadwinner” in a relationship, failing to recognise that “gender equality” may mean their partners can also “bring home the bacon”. ....

Pedestrian Safety Planning Streets Committee Chairwoman Susan Boyer focused her questions on grant administration of the Ohio Department of Health’s Creating Healthy Communities’ programmatic funding Thursday following the citizen-driven outline of pedestrian safety needs along the Franklin Street Corridor in the lower west side (Harmar). “We were recently contacted as a neighborhood, from the county health department’s Creating Healthy Communities Coalition as part of their 2021 work plan for improving pedestrian infrastructure,” prefaced Councilman Geoff Schenkel, D, Fourth Ward (the ward in which Harmar and the lower west side sit). ....
jpatterson@mariettatimes.com Marietta City Council authorized the creation of a part-time clerk in the fight against blight Thursday, with the caveat that the adoption was a “baby step.” “I am not willing to commit the city to spending money on another city employee without knowing if any of the issues that we are experiencing in the department would be solved by adding this position. And that justification has not occurred,” said the chairwoman of the Employee Relations Committee, Council Member Cassidi Shoaf. Shoaf’s fellow committee and council members Susan Boyer and Bill Farnsworth brought the ordinance forward at the close of 2020 and Thursday hosted the third reading of Ordinance 165 creating a part-time clerk position within the city’s code enforcement office, now named property maintenance office. ....

The position of a part-time clerk in the Department of Property Maintenance solely for the year 2021 (a trial-year, per past council committee discussions) is up for a vote today to serve alongside the city’s code enforcement official. The pay scale and expected duties for such a new position have been a topic of frequent debate in Employee Relations Committee leading up to today and are the reason that the legislation was not introduced by that committee’s chairwoman, Councilwoman Cassidi Shoaf, R, at-large. ....
