YARMOUTH It s been 10 years since Bob Lawton retired as Yarmouth s town administrator, but the seasoned official has hardly stepped away from the corner office. Lawton, who for 32 years held the post as Yarmouth s first town administrator, was named interim administrator upon Daniel Knapik s departure from the role in January. He ll stay on until the new administrator, Robert Whritenour, starts April 5. Granted, his work as interim manager is temporary and his work schedule has been shortened to two days a week. But he still has his hands on the reins in many ways. He s been reviewing contracts and procurements, making sure the select board packets and presentations are organized, and holding meetings with department heads. ....

Oak Bluffs town admin Robert Whritenour Jr. is set to take over the same position in Yarmouth, replacing the outgoing Daniel Knapik. Harwich Interim Town Administrator Joe Powers, who was apparently eying the Yarmouth vacancy, has been named to his current position on a permanent basis. ....
YARMOUTH On Wednesday afternoon, a contingent of vehicles from the town s police, fire, sanitation and public works departments drove around Town Hall with sirens going. The drive-by parade was coordinated as a send-off for Town Administrator Daniel Knapik, whose last day on the job is Friday. “It was completely unexpected,” Knapik said, noting his wife, Tricia, was in on the secret. “I want to thank the people of Yarmouth,” he said. “They accepted me as one of their own. It was a great stop in my career.” Just days before Knapik is set to leave, the Select Board on Tuesday voted to hire the town s next top official. ....
The board unanimously voted Tuesday to appoint Robert Lawton Jr. to the interim post, effective Wednesday. Lawton, who has previously worked as a town administrator in Yarmouth, comes on as Daniel Knapik prepares to leave the post on Jan. 22. Lawton s contract stipulates that he will work two days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and will be paid $673.08 per day. That schedule could be modified if the need arises. In addition to Yarmouth, Lawton has served in key administrative positions in towns across the Cape. Board chairman Mark Forest said he was excited to have him come back as the interim administrator. ....
