Albertville High School principal, Jordan Phillips, said the community is heartbroken and they are holding onto hope for Daniel Leija's quick recovery.
"We're running the rest of the season for Daniel. We're going to finish the season strong."
17-year-old Daniel Leija has since undergone three surgeries and the district said he has a long recovery ahead.
