By Shirley Jackson Darter Festival The Southern Environmental Center will host the eighth annual Darter Festival at Avondale Brewery outdoors Sunday, May 23, from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a Darter Dance performance by Birmingham City preschoolers, live music, beer, food and socially distanced family fun to support educational programs at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. The festival celebrates a tiny fish that can be found only in the clean, fresh waters of Turkey Creek.
