Former County Board member David Amor, who know serves as the Broadband Coordinator for the county, detailed some of the logistics of the grant to the board Wednesday night. "Oneida Telephone is submitting a proposal to the State of Illinois' Connect Illinois funding program for a total project cost of $4.5 million and is asking the county for a $500,000 matching grant to add to their own investment as their local match component of that grant application." Amor continued that the county's commitment of funds is contingent on Oneida Telephone Exchange receiving the funds by March of 2024. Many candidates for Galesburg public offices will participate in a pair of upcoming forums sponsored by a trio of local organizations. While the Galesburg NAACP has taken a lead role in these types of forums in past years, the NAACP will be joined by United Against Hate and PFLAG in co-sponsoring this year. Both will be held at the Galesburg Public Library and start at 7 p.m. Eberhard says the questions candidates face won't have a particular theme but will try to "cover both recent issues and the normal range of events that each of the two bodies typically face in any given year. Candidates will also get the chance to make an opening and clos ....
The Knox County Broadband Steering Team is asking county residents to go online to the new National Broadband Map to verify the location of their home or business and the accuracy of the information regarding the availability of high-speed internet service. If the location and availability information is not accurate, residents can use the interactive map to lodge a challenge with the Federal Communications Commission, which is seeking this feedback to improve the accuracy of the map. "We're asking as many county residents as possible to check out the map and verify their information," said David Amor, convener of the Steering Team and outgoing Knox County Board vice chair. "Just as with the census, the greater the accuracy of the map, the greater the chance that we will be successful in getting the funds to improve broadband throughout the county." "We know from our community broadband survey last May that many locations are still unserved with reliable ....
