Billy Dowling waved off Year 11 English to teach seasoned pros a lesson at just 15 in a remarkable effort on Thursday at the Queensland Open.
But as young as Dowling is, he was turning to caddie Alfie Ward for all the wisdom of his 13 years during his excellent even-par round of 72 at Pelican Waters outside Caloundra.
It's hard to imagine there has ever been a younger player-caddie duo on course in a professional tournament in Australia.

Past Qld Open champs eye double silverware | PGA of Australia

It’s been a generation since there’s been a multiple Queensland Open winner.
And on a trophy as storied as the T.B. Hunter Cup, that’s historically odd given some of Australian golf’s greatest names – Greg Norman, David Graham, Ossie Pickworth, Kel Nagle, Norman Von Nida and Jim Ferrier, just to name a few – are engraved multiple times.
But not since Terry Price won his state Open for a second time in 1995 at Windaroo has it happened in the modern era.
Andrew Dodt is one of five who can right that wrong from 11-14 March at Pelican Waters.

He’s led since day one but No.1 seed Deyen Lawson has declared that any of the 24 qualifiers are capable of walking away as champion as the Gippsland Super 6 moves into the match play phase on Sunday.
The top eight qualifiers through 54 holes of stroke play have earned a direct path through to round two and the final 16 with Blake Windred and Brett Rankin securing a spot in the top eight in a playoff that consigned Bryden Macpherson to ninth spot.
Macpherson and the remaining qualifiers now need to win five six-hole matches to take the title with Justin Warren, Michael Wright, Cory Crawford, David Bransdon and Rick Kulacz having to make their way past a seven-for-five playoff to qualify for the match play.

Andrew Martin and Tim Hart have won at the Gippsland BMW Warragul Country Club Pro-Am with rounds of 6-under 65 in wet, windy Warragul conditions.
Following a disastrous start to his round thanks to a double bogey on the uphill par-4 17
th, Martin quickly turned his fortunes around with back-to-back birdies on holes 3 and 4 to get back to square.
The Asian Tour regular added an additional two birdies to his scorecard to close out the front-nine and put him with reach of clubhouse lead of 3-under set by Marcus Fraser. Additional birdies on holes 11, 12, 14 and 15 saw Martin sign for 6-under 65.
